Jolene Smith and partner Wessel Oosthuizen have recently joined the Focus Health team.
Jolene qualified as a physiotherapist in her native South Africa in 1997, where she also met Wessel. She practiced in England for a year before moving to New York, where she began to specialise in women's health. After five years in the city that never sleeps, the couple decided to move to one that never gets cold - Honolulu, Hawaii.
Here Jolene further developed her approach to pelvic floor problems, introducing the use of computerised biofeedback equipment to assist assessment and treatment.
“I always wanted to work with the human body, but couldn't stand blood. Physiotherapy seemed perfect for me. I find women's health particularly gratifying because it gets such excellent results.”
After fourteen years in Hawaii, Jolene, Wessel and their two children started to look for a family-friendly country and New Zealand ticked all the boxes.
Focus Health is fortunate to have both of them join the team and are looking forward to introducing and developing Jolene’s service to treat pelvic floor problems.
